Bad blogger...good gardener

I'm really bad at this blogging thing! What started as a project for a course...turned into something I thought I'd want to keep going...turned into something I occasionally revisit! My apologies to anyone that may visit this blog. The good news is that we're back into the gardening season in western PA & I'm up to my elbows in flowers, vegetables, fruits and herbs! So far we've had great growing weather & the plants are all loving it! A couple of things I wanted to pass on to you.

1) If you weed often, it's much easier to keep up and not become overwhelmed! Pretty much common sense, right?!? It's not as easy as it sounds but, trust me, if you stay on top of the weeds, you and your garden will be much happier! There's always time to dedicate 10-15 minutes to pulling a few weeds.

2) Perennials are your friends! By using perennials in your flower beds, you automatically generate new plants that can be dug up & replanted in other beds, shared with friends or sold. I just created a new bed this year using perennials such as Lambs Ear, fountain grasses, and Lily of the Valley as my primary plants. I filled in with some daisy's, and cosmos to add some color. It was inexpensive (aka free)and will only continue to fill in each year.

If you haven't already taken my advice - get out there & give gardening a try! It's a great way to get some exercise (especially if you've ignored my advice about weeding in small increments!) and give your home some curb appeal. Don't forget that once your gardens start to produce, you have the potential to have an entire produce section or flower shop in your very own yard!
